DEMIRS conducted a meeting on November 6, 2024 to update Training Providers on changes to the legislation exams.

Key Immediate Changes

The variable pass mark for each section in the 3-section MSP legislation exam was: Section 1 = 90%, Section 2 = 80%, Section 3 = 90%.

This approach did not meet standardised exam design principles. Candidates had to re-sit the whole exam if they did not pass an individual section, with a maximum of 3 attempts per year. This system caused duplication of effort and reduced availability of exam bookings.

The pass mark has been standardised across all sections (at 80%) to reflect best practice assessment design. The new pass mark reflects overall performance across the 3 sections.

Changes to pass marks have been retrospectively applied to all candidates who previously passed one or more sections according to the 90%/80%/90% pass marks. Candidates who achieved 80% across the 3 sections have now passed the exam and were advised on October 31, 2024.

What DEMIRS is Doing Next:

There will be consultation with industry to explore sample questions, study guides, online webinars, podcasts, and data dashboards as part of the MSPP tool kit.

Oral supplementary resits will be made available.

They will be exploring alternate exam models, to determine the most suitable structures for different types of candidates.
