In March changes were made to a number of qualifications in the Business Services Training Package.
From a Work Health and Safety perspective the most significant change is to the unit of competency – BSBWHS402. This unit of competency, ‘Assist with compliance with WHS laws’ is one of the core units for the Certificate IV WHS.
The changes state that ‘Assessors of this unit of competency must hold a WHS qualification or equivalent at Diploma level or higher’.
So what does this mean for Registered Training Organisations?
Historically, Assessors have only been required to hold the equivalent qualification for which they are assessing. For example, an Assessor of Certificate IV WHS would be required to hold the Certificate IV WHS (and the particular units against which they are assessing).
From March 2016 RTO’s must have Assessors with the Diploma WHS or who can demonstrate equivalency in order to assess this unit of competency.
